*10 Basic Number Composition Sorts:
Addition Subtraction Sorts with 24 cards each.
*2 Unitizing Sorts:
Addition and Subtraction of simple tens and hundreds (applying basic ways of making ten facts... like 6 tens + 4 tens)
These sorts move from simple number composition to unitizing
! As we learn what a "ten unit" is in first grade, we need LOTS and LOTS of experiences working with tens and ones. We need to handle the blocks, and play with tiny ten frames at the same time (since most of us really don't "buy in" to those blocks anyway). We need to think about 2 tens take away1 ten equals RIGHT AWAY!! Before our third grade teacher is shocked that we can't tell you 20 take away 10 even though our first grade teacher did +1, -1 and +10-10 fifty thousand times! :)
