AGUASCALIENTES (MEXICO, SOC. STUDIES, READING FUN, WRITING, SPANISH, CCSS) begins with a reading passage about Mexico’s city Aguascalientes! It’s in English then Spanish so that students in regular English but also Spanish classes and ESL/ELL students can benefit from using it for developing greater reading fluency and vocabulary. There are also links to Articles, Books and Videos concerning Aguacalientes.
Thirdly, there is a very short section of True-False questions and then of Multiple Choice questions. These are based on information in the reader. The questions are given in English as well as Spanish.
The fourth part consists of five fun Word Searches about Aguascalientes. Although given in English and Spanish, the words that are to be searched for are only the English ones. Since the words are given in the context of sentences, the students review and better learn the information, not just the words.
There are two pages of Public Domain Clip Art For Mexico; a Certificate Of Complete which makes a nice, motivational award. Next comes an easy Guided Writing about Aguascalientes which teaches what a “structured” essay is.
Finally there are handy, clear suggestions for applying Common Core Standards to the Aguascalientes reading material.
So, as you can see, this is very pedagogically sound, being a well-balanced mixture of work and fun activities which the students as well as you yourself can appreciate. Easy, simple, effective.
