Parent communication throughout the AIS/RtI process is very important. These two documents can help start initiate the first step.
Aside from it being a general good idea, families must be notified of their child’s participation in AIS/RtI. This form letter can help you briefly explain the recommendation that was made and the steps that will be taken to support their child. You can customize some aspects of this form (school information, additional space if any supplemental information) as well fill in the prepared categories to complete your letter.
When sending home the notification letter, I include a questionnaire. This document allows the student’s family to give me information regarding the behaviors and feelings of their child at home. Gaining this insight from our students’ first teachers (their families) sets the stage for a partnership and makes the first contact a more positive experience.
