PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

All-Bright Court by Connie Porter (author of the Addy books in the American Girl series) is a poignant novel about an African American family who left the south in the mid-twentieth century for a better life in the north but struggled in working-class tenements near Buffalo, NY. Because this compelling novel is written in an authentic voice, some dialect (such as “stuttin” and “fro”) may be unfamiliar to students. Some cultural and historical references (such as “Toby Tyler” and “Goodman, Chaney, and Schwerner”) may also be unfamiliar. My bookmark, sized to fit into a copy of All-Bright Court, contains definitions and explanations to clarify 20 historical, cultural, and dialectical references that appear in All-Bright Court.
