This SMARTboard lesson is both a minilesson and practice analogies. It begins with several slides introducing analogies and explaining how to determine the relationship of the words. Examples are given for analogies that are synonyms, antonyms, homophones, and whole to part. Then the lesson provides practice in completing analogies. A few are introduced at the end that have different relationships than the 4 listed above (cause and effect/object to function/animal to habitat). This is a great activity to sharpen critical thinking skills to determine the relationships. Good for students even if you are not directly teaching analogies. Even fun to use when you have a few minutes before end of class or lunch or dismissal. All slides are self checking so this could even be an independent activity. Younger students may need more teacher guidance to understand the relationships. Created with Smart Notebook 11.
