This 33 PAGE animal habitat packet provides teachers with ways to differentiate for English learners. The 80 word wall cards with picture support and 10 cut/paste sorts are helpful for your level 1 and level 2 students. Even your newcomers will enjoy the pictures.
The eight represented animal biomes, plus the extra two categories of pets and farms are color-coded. I did this because I am not trying to trick my English learners into figuring out which habitat to sort the animals. The pictures placed on the biome header cards give the kids a chance to easily be successful. I included 10 cut/paste partner sorts for use after the students have practiced sorting the colorful picture cards.
My plan is to use the picture cards to introduce the animal names along with nonfiction read-aloud titles for each biome as I teach each one. Once I have read all the titles I want to read, the kids can practice sorting with the header cards and with the cut/paste pages. The cut/paste pages are great for early finishers, inside recess, or a literacy centers.
