Created for Advanced Placement 12 (literature and composition) students. This could be used with other honors-level or advanced students.
This rubric is intended to be used to evaluate a full-length literary analysis of a single work of fiction (short story, novel, or play). The evaluator circles the number corresponding to his/her level of agreement with each "quality criteria" statement. This is an excellent tool for papers that students will have an opportunity to re-write for improvement.
When I use this, I also use a highlighter to denote specific items that the writer needs to work on (for example, I might highlight "transitions" in the statement about "organization"). I also make notes and marks on their papers; I don't rely solely on the rubric to provide the student with feedback.
