The College Board's rigorous requirements for AP Art History include the use of primary sources. I have designed an activity based on the ultimate artist biographical collection--Vasari's Lives of the Artists. Students read one or all three edited and excerpted biographies from artists represented on the list of 250 (Giotto, Donatello, and Michelangelo), and then answer the provided questions either in writing or as a class discussion.
This packet is a ready-to-use activity that would be great for a homework assignment, a group project, writing practice, or a sub plan. Your resource includes free bonus lesson plan ideas for extending or altering this activity.
