Product Description
This AP Biology resource supports Goal 4 of the curriculum. It allows students to use modeling to illustrate and analyze how molecular interactions affect the structure and functions of molecules in the cell. Students work cooperatively to model a three part enzyme reaction, an enzyme reaction with a competitive inhibitor, and an enzyme reaction with a noncompetitive inhibitor. The activity is extremely engaging, fun, and effective. I’ve included some pictures of my students laying out their models on the lab tables. Supplies needed are craft foam sheets of different colors, scissors, handouts, and answer key. A possible final step is to make a poster and label enzyme, substrate, product, active site, competitive inhibitor and noncompetitive inhibitor.
