In this activity, students will read through two different articles on the NASA study of the Kelly Twins. Scott and Mark Kelly, identical twins, were studied while Scott spent time in space and Mark stayed here on Earth. These two articles look at the affects of space on gene expression in Scott Kelly. The article makes students think about gene expression, DNA mutations, and presentation of scientific information in articles.
Students should summarize each article and then answer the questions at the end. After they answer questions on their own, students should participate in a class discussion over the topic and clarify any misconceptions.
