PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Students begin by color-coding the functional groups (hydrophilic vs. hydrophobic) on simple diagrams of the molecules used in the lab, including four photosynthetic pigments, chromatography solvent and chromatography paper. They then use the diagrams to answer questions about ways in which the molecules will interact based on the properties identified via color-coding. Students then review the chromatography lab protocol and make predictions based on their understanding. After completing the lab, students compare their expected results with their observed results and reflect on any discrepancies between the two.
