This baseline assessment is designed to measure students’ skills and understanding in preparation for the AP Language and Composition exam.
The questions are modeled closely after released test items.
This is an abbreviated test meant for the beginning of the year (although you could certainly use the whole test or its parts throughout the year as desired). It focuses on close reading skills (multiple choice), analytical writing, and argumentation. A synthesis essay is not included, as the skills are better measured discretely at this point in the year through rhetorical analysis and argumentation.
→Multiple Choice Passages (2): Each passage is accompanied by eight multiple choice questions.
→Rhetorical Analysis Question
→Answer Key: Essay scoring considerations are listed for high (8-9), middle (5-7), and low (1-4) essays. For additional scoring supports, please refer to the AP released scoring guidelines or my AP Language and Composition Proficiency Scales(sold separately).
