If you are new to teaching AP Lang or your AP Lang curriculum needs an upgrade, this AP Lang Growing Curriculum Bundle is for you! I know if you’re reading this, you’re an AP Lang teacher who is looking for a curriculum that is engaging, 2020 AP Lang CED aligned, research-based, thorough, and effective. This bundle was created just for you!

What's inside the AP Lang Curriculum?

This AP English Language and Composition curriculum is undivided into two parts:

  1. AP Lang Essential Skills Units
  2. Thematic Units

The AP Lang Essential Skills Units Contents:

Unit 1: Introduction to AP Lang

Start your school year with your writing (composition class) or your AP Language and Composition class. Task 1 is a student survey to get to know your students. Task 2 guides students to read and analyze the class syllabus. Task 3 is designed to tackle record-keeping, like book distribution and signing up for class accounts. Task 4 introduces students to rhetoric with a short video from YouTube. Task 5 collects a writing sample. Task 6 introduces students to the final assessment. All of these stations have editable text, so you can edit them to fit your needs.

Teach students to focus their close reading and annotate with purpose making their reading efficient and effective, an essential skill for the AP Lang exam.

Unit 2: Rhetorical Analysis

Teach the rhetorical triangle, the rhetorical situation, and persuasive appeals with success! Students will study ethos, pathos, and logos with engaging, interactive activities, and they will practice reading and analyzing famous speeches by diverse speakers and applying the appeals to their own writing and speaking situations.

Walk students step-by-step through the rhetorical analysis essay writing process. It begins by familiarizing and reiterating the stylistic elements and persuasive appeals through a guided practice with Lou Gehrig’s “Farewell Address.” This text is just for practice, NOT for the essay prompt. You can give students ANY essay prompt for this assignment. Just choose one from the release AP Exams.

Unit 3: Argument

Teach your students to evaluate and create strong arguments with my Analyzing Arguments Unit! In this unit, students will evaluate and create claims, evidence, counterarguments, and fallacies.

Empower students to write strong argumentative and persuasive essays with my Argument Essay Workbook. The Argument Essay Workbook is designed to walk students step-by-step through the argument writing process. You can give students ANY essay prompt for this assignment. Just choose one from the release AP Exams.

Unit 4: Synthesis

Teach students to evaluate and synthesize sources with my Synthesizing Sources Unit. This workbook will teach your students how to evaluate sources using the CRAP Test and incorporate credible sources into their own arguments. Students practice creating a well-developed body paragraph and establishing a line of reasoning.

Engage your students to look critically at news media sources and scope out unreliable, bias, and fake sources. This lesson will teach students how to differentiate between credible, reliable news from “fake news.”

Flex Resources:

The second part of this AP Lang Curriculum is the thematic application unit. This unit encourages students to apply the course skills they’ve learned to nonfiction and fiction. Because AP Lang can be taught in conjunction with other courses (like American Literature), this will give you the freedom to add in literature that is appropriate for your class.

This is what sets this curriculum apart from other AP Lang curriculums: you have the flexibility to make it work for your students and your school requirements.

To make it even more adaptable, I’ve included flex resources that can be used with any thematic selections you choose. These include a selection of thematic units that are often taught in AP Lang (The Crucible, Transcendentalism, and “A Modest Proposal”).

I will continue to add more curriculum resources to the thematic portion of this curriculum as I complete them. This growing bundle includes all of my AP English Language and Composition resources at a 15% off discount versus buying them separately. A growing bundle means that as I finish new resources for this course, you will have automatic access to ALL updates for free just by re-downloading it from your purchases menu on your TpT account under "My Purchases." Lock in the lowest price now because the price will go up as I add new resources.
