This is a powerpoint I use with my AP LIt and Comp students to take them through the mechanics of writing a coherent, concise AP style analysis essay. The various parts of speech are in different colors to aid visual recognition. I also give the students a one page sheet that includes all of the text in the slides. The students highlight in colors matching the slides to further anchor the concepts. As the site only allows uploads of individual files, you should open the powerpoint, cllick on the outline tab (next to the slides tab) and highlight, then copy all of the text into Word.
The ppt. is used with the 2001 Q2 passage from 'Tom Jones" by Henry Fielding. You can download the prompt and a handy scoring guide from the college board - free.
As with all my Power Points, I try to inject some 'to the point' humor, including foreign commercials that touch on the topic under discussion. The most common feedback I recieve from students is some variety of "why didn't they show us this in ninth grade".
