In this two-day lesson, students, analyzing various Spanish and English primary sources (mainly diary excerpts), will learn about the reasons for the voyages, and in turn, the reasons for the establishment of European settlements in the Americas. At the end of the lesson, students will fill out a T-chart. They will be able to compare and contrast the motives for the Spanish and the English reasons for colonization within the Western Hemisphere.
