In this two-day lesson, students, working in groups, will examine some of the most famous works produced during the First World War. There are seven documents all together. Each group will be given either a song or a poem to analyze. From their examination of the work, they will then complete the chart on the next two pages. Each group will present their findings. By the end of the lesson, students will understand that there was great anticipation and patriotism that occurred in the early stages of the war, and by the conclusion of the war, poets and song writers wrote works that mirrored the disillusionment of the nations that participated in the war.
