After assessing students' comfortability with various AP French contexts using a Google Form, I had students sign up for a topic that the class as a whole felt less confident about being able to compare.
I encouraged them to start their research by looking for current events that relate to their topic by exploring Francophone news websites such as France 24, Le Monde, TV5Monde, Jeune Afrique, Radio-Canada, etc.
After exploring and taking some notes, students had to choose a particular Francophone community to anchor their comparison and find and explain the importance of these examples.
Then, students defined how they would be addressing their own community and thought about, and maybe even researched, 3 points of comparison.
Finally, students worked on three products to submit to me for a grade (I simply use the most recent cultural comparison scoring guidelines to evaluate them). First, they employed the writing process to compose their comparisons in paragraph form. Second, they recorded their comparison & created a video using Adobe Spark. Third, they created a Kahoot with 10-20 questions that the class can play throughout the year to a) have a little fun and b) boost our knowledge of various topics!
