Product Description
This writing prompt was designed as a culminating assessment for an AP Language and Composition multiple choice and rhetorical analysis unit using five essays from the 5th edition of 50 Essays.

The essays include:
"Notes of a Native Son"
"The Paranoid Style of American Policing"
"The Fourth of July"
"How it Feels to be Colored Me"
"Just Walk On By: Black Men and Public Space"

Prior to using the prompt, I assigned students these essays. My unit spanned over the course of two weeks and included class discussions on each of the essays using guiding questions to enforce rhetorical analysis. It also included the multiple choice assessments from the 50 Essays workbook. By the time students came to using this prompt, they had worked with the texts on a deeper level than they would for the average AP prompt.
