Product Description

AP Language & Composition students beginning their fall coursework are a bundle of nerves: essay types, timed writings, and rhetorical features. My students are constantly struggling with determining which rhetorical features are dominant within a text--those that most closely tie to an author's thematic ideas. There is NO single answer.

I copy the "Three Essay Types--Structures and Strategies" & "Primary Rhetorical Features: Working towards Effects" documents on heavy card stock paper and then laminate them. Then I put two copies in each table's handout holder for students to reference all year long as they close read and write essays. (Last year after my AP Language & Composition students advanced to AP Literature & Composition, they asked their new teacher if she wouldn't have laminated handouts for their reference as well.) Another useful way to use these handouts is to copy one for students and allow them to take them out and use them throughout the school year! "DO NOT COPY" is NOT printed on the materials you will download!

This download includes two extremely helpful handouts that students will use all year long: "Three Essay Types--Structures and Strategies" and "Primary Rhetorical Features: Working towards Effects" (PDF). Please connect with me if you have other useful ways to use this item!
