I like to give this basic assessment as a preview to students' own academic writing (especially a researched argument paper). I want them to understand the appeals, the rhetorical situation, and the types of claims before they start writing. This information can be found in many AP Language and ENGL 1101-2 textbooks, but I have created original questions.
WHAT YOU GET:
A 25-question multiple-choice assessment and answer key on the following:
- Rhetorical Triangle
- Classical Appeals
- Academic Inquiry
- Types of Claims (in an argument)
Suitable for AP Language, ENGL 1101, or ENGL 1102.
Answer Key Provided.
I created the questions and the answer key. Some of the basic wording in the assessment is adapted from the textbook "From Inquiry to Academic Writing" by Stuart Greene and April Lidinsky.
