This document uses "What is Poverty?" by Jo Goodwin Parker, which can be found online.
I start with some common mistakes such as repeating the prompt, writing a poor thesis, paraphrasing instead of analyzing, and other things that will kill a student's score.
Then I typed out part of Goodwin's essay, show in a paragraph how to write the analysis, and finally why what I wrote is analysis of language.
I did not write an analysis of the full essay because it is long, but I have given about 4 pages of teaching analysis using this essay.
Some of what I have analyzed is Goodwin's diction, sentence structure, imagery, use of examples and narration and her organization.
