This is an AP Literature-style prose prompt using text from The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. When it came time for my students to write their first AP-style prose essay of the year, we had just finished reading Dorian Gray, so I wanted their prose passage to be from that text - but I couldn't find one anywhere! So, I made my own! Hopefully it helps another teacher frantically searching the internet at 5:30 a.m. like I was!
Formatted to look like the Question 2 on the AP test.
Can also be used as a non-AP close reading activity with grades 9-12.
I use the AP Literature rubric to score these essays. You can find one here: http://mrmarkenglish.weebly.com/uploads/3/7/0/4/3704580/ap_eng_essay_scoring.pdf
