Using the JFK rhetorical analysis prompt, I created a graphic organizer to scaffold how my students arrive at the assertions for their own writing. It asks them to start with what they notice, the evidence of it and then asks them to define the strategy and compose an assertion. This tool can easily be modified for any rhetorical analysis prompt.
This tool is very versatile. For instance, you can differentiate by filling in more boxes or removing information from the boxes to meet individual student needs.
