This assignment is one I have created and modified over the years to encourage students to stay aware of the events happening in Spanish-speaking countries.
The assignment is that every 4 weeks students find BOTH an audio selection and an article about something happening in the Spanish-speaking world. Students then write a response to both selections, which requires them to analyze and interpret what they have heard and read.
Students are then asked to provide their opinions, and to make a comparison to another event that they are familiar with. This helps to prepare them for the cultural comparison portion of the AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam.
A list of suggested sources is provided, and students are required to make a selection that falls into one of the six AP themes.
I have created a simplified version of the rubric used by College Board when grading AP Presentational Writing. This rubric is included (in English).
I collect about 5-6 notebooks every week: students turn in notebooks on a rotating basis based on the color of their notebook cover. Red notebooks turn in one week, and then do not turn in their notebook again for 4 weeks. A calendar that I use to track these due dates is included.
The file is a Word document, which allows you to make changes to fit the needs of your classroom. I am also happy to provide any editing that you need. Please feel free to ask questions or request changes so that you are able to leave positive feedback!
