This PowerPoint contains the pictures of 8 famous Spanish-speakers, whose photos are labeled with their nationality. Names are hidden, so that students can try to identify who each person is before discussing.
Lesson Plan suggestions are included for a discussion on the difference between a hero and an idol, and for arriving at a common class definition of both a HERO and an IDOL. After establishing a common hero vs. idol definition, students can use the provided photos to vote on whether they think each famous Spanish-Speaker is a hero or an idol.
Background information on the accomplishments and achievements of each famous Spanish-speaker is provided for the purposes of teacher-led discussion. After providing background information about each person, students can then decide whether they still agree with their initial impression of hero or idol.
Suggestions given for in-class activities and for follow-up homework / assignment.
This lesson was designed to fit in with the AP theme of Personal and Public Identities.
