In this lesson (which includes a link to an editable Google Doc) students will watch an interview with Cuban-American designer Narciso Rodríguez in which he talks about his life and some of the challenges he has overcome (including his immigrant parents wanting him to be a doctor or a lawyer). There is a two-page worksheet (one sheet back and front) for students including:
1) Five questions pertaining to "moda/marcas/diseño" for students to answer BEFORE watching the video to "prime the pump."
2) Ten questions for students to answer ABOUT the video to ensure comprehension and get them thinking and ...
3) Five personal questions that relate to the video for students to answer AFTER watching. They can speak with a partner to answer these or write them down (or both!).
This lesson works really well with Tema 3 (La belleza y la estética), Contexto 2 (La moda y el diseño) and takes on class period, with options for skipping parts to make shorter or adding writing components (i.e. an email to your friend about seeing Rodriguez's Fashion Week show) to extend. It could also work well in a Spanish 4 Ap Prep class.
NOTE: Please see http://famouslatinobirthdays.blogspot.com and search "Narciso Rodriguez," or google "Narciso Rodríguez entrevista CNN" to make sure you can access the video before purchasing this lesson. There is a link to the video on the lesson once you download.
