Product Description
This lesson surrounding Mexican singer Joan Sebastian's song Celia, about his late mother, would work well for any class reviewing the imperfect and thinking about the importance of childhood dreams (Sebastian's mother always told him a story that she "se columpiaba en las estrellas," which he recounts in the video -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJkRiE1r8m4 -- before singing the song). I like it for the AP unit on Las Familias y Las Comunidades because Joan Sebastian was such an important figure for the Hispanic community in the United States (though concert attendance fell in the last years of his life as more and more people worried about immigration raids), and because he sings of his devotion to his mother, and her devotion to him. The lesson includes a two page worksheet for students with a vocabulary warm-up, a practice with the imperfect from his introduction (10 verbs), a clozeline for the song, and follow-up questions for students. Answer key included.
