Tired of practicing essays without providing sample responses? Wouldn't you like to have your students practice applying the AP rubric in a relevant manner? This is a set of 6 AP Spanish Language and Culture essay responses with scores and commentary based on the AP Scoring Guidelines for this task. While the essay questions and sources come from TEMAS, you do not have to be a subscriber of TEMAS to use this activity; since TEMAS uses online materials for their sources, links have been provided so that you can easily find them. Also, an activity based on the common grammar errors found in the full set of 23 essays is provided (with an answer key of course!).
I strongly suggest having students break into groups to read the essays, then decide what score each essay should receive. It's a great way for them to understand the rubric. There are two essays with a score of 5, two essays with a score of 4, and two essays with a score of 3.
The grammar activity could be done before students write the essays, as a way to help guide them and be proactive - or it can be done afterwards.
I am an AP Reader and have collaborated with another AP Reader regarding these scores and comments.
