Unit 1: Experimental Design (regular guided notes and foldable notes option)

This bundle contains all four lessons for the Experimental Design unit for AP Statistics.

Lesson 1: Students will:

-be exposed to fundamental vocabulary,

-identify individuals and variables in a set of data

-decide if a variable is quantitative or categorical

-start collecting data that can be used in later lessons

Sampling Demonstration/Activity

Lesson 2:Students will:

-be introduced to key vocabulary terms

-identify the population and sample of a statistical study

-identify voluntary and convenience sampling techniques which lead to
biased results

-explain how they produced biased data

-describe how to do an SRS with technology, slips of paper, and random

digits

-describe how to take a stratified, cluster, and systematic sample

-identify the advantages to certain sampling techniques

Lesson 3: Students will:

-distinguish between an observational study and an experiment

-identify experimental units, explanatory variables, response variables, and

treatments

-understand the necessity of comparison, randomization, and replication in a

well-designed experiment

-design experiments choosing the most appropriate design type: Completely

Randomized, Block, or Matched Pairs

-explain what is possible and not possible to infer about a statistical study

-decide if it is possible to make generalizations about a whole population

and whether or not cause and effect can be established based on sample

data

SMART notebook files are included for the teacher to fill in with the class.
