This is the first lesson that I teach in my AP Statistics class. I teach the curriculum in a different order than most textbooks. I start with the unit experimental design. It makes sense to teach students how to effectively collect data before we start to analyze it. This lesson will expose students to fundamental vocabulary, the students will identify individuals and variables in a set of data, and decide if a variable is quantitative or categorical. Students will also start collecting data that can be used in later lessons. Homework/Classwork is included. This lesson is set up to have the teacher lead the students through the note-taking process while incorporating examples for the students to try. The answer key is provided with the pages numbered. I will also be making videos that take the student through the lesson for those that flip their classroom or for absent students. A SMART notebook file is included for the teacher to fill in with the class.
