RECENTLY UPDATED for better readability and print quality! Plus an eighth strategy, TACOS, added!
If you teach Social Studies you know how important it is to prepare students for Advanced Placement courses and exams. In order to better prepare our students we should teach Pre-AP/AP strategies starting in elementary school. These strategies are supported by the College Board in aiding students in reading, writing, and analysis of multiple sources.
This resource includes a poster and a half sheet (2 per page) for student ISNs for the following eight strategies:
APPARTS (text analysis)
Interpret vs. Analyze
OPTIC (graphic analysis)
PEGS (categorizing data)
Question Modes in the Social Studies Curriculum (essay development)
TACOS (image analysis)
TP-CASTT (poetry analysis)
This vertical alignment will add fluidity to the skills students use in Social Studies as they explore their way to Advanced Placement courses!
