PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Students, through the analysis of primary source readings, will identify John Brown’s role in “Bleeding Kansas” and in the raid at Harper’s Ferry. Through the examination of various newspaper articles on John Brown’s raid, the students will analyze the impact of the northern abolitionist’s actions on the sectional division within the country. By the end of the lesson, students will assess Brown’s actions by answering the “Aim” question in a detailed, analytical essay. The new DBQ rubric (2015) is attached at the end of this lesson for grading purposes.
