This is a Univision series of vignettes (4 minutes each) that tracks a Honduran youth who sets off to immigrate to the US. The journalist talks to his family, find him as he travels on the infamous 'Bestia' rail corridor, and goes until he is kidnapped at the border, released, and held in a foster home after having been captured at the US border.
The worksheet ask basic understanding questions of the students, based on the life that Delmer has left and his experience on the road. It does not ask any higher - level questions. I normally reserve those for after the videos. My first question is usually: "Why would Delmer take such a risk to get to the United States?" This question usually leads to quite a discussion.
This type of activity helps prepare our students for the AP exam, as it is a culturally relevant piece of Realia that challenges our students, and prompts them to use their prior cultural knowledge to respond.
I use this activity for Spanish 3, and it is good for Spanish 4 and Spanish 5 AP.
The preview contains the link to one of the videos. I check periodically to see if the link is working, and you can check the link in the preview before purchase.
