APPLY SKILLS FACTORING AND SOLVING QUADRATICS PROBLEMS IN THIS ESCAPE ROOM STYLE ACTIVITY

A high profile theft has occurred in the town of Parisabola. The eccentric town millionaire, Al Gorithm, had his fortified river side mansion broken into and robbed by a masked bandit. The only item stolen was a priceless original Leonardo Da Vinci painting. As a senior detective on the Parisabola Police Force, you are in charge of analyzing the clues to identify and apprehend the primary suspect. The ground work done by the police force has generated a set of evidence and witness testimonials, which have painted a general picture of how the heist unfolded!

This escape room style "Whodunnit?" activity is an exciting and engaging way to review or practice your quadratics unit!

This lesson is intended for use in a high school classroom to review working with applications of quadratic functions.

Topics covered include:

• Factoring Quadratics

• Determining the Vertex and Roots of a Quadratic Equation

• Solving a Quadratic Equation with the Quadratic Formula

• Determining Minimum and Maximum Values

• Solving Rational Equations

Students should have a strong enough working knowledge of quadratics to be able to apply knowledge of quadratic functions to real life contexts. A file containing practice problems to help prepare students for the crime solving activity is also included with this activity (to be used in lessons prior to the actual use of this activity).

This activity is ready to use and the only additional material needed to complete this activity is student access to a computer (only one computer needed for the entire class).

Note: Computer must be able to access Microsoft excel.
