I have created these "Learning Guides" as an alternative to the typical study guide. Each learning guide identifies the learning objectives for the unit (see the APUSH Unit and Pacing Guide also available for purchase) adapted from the APUSH key concepts for each historical period. In addition, each unit emphasizes certain skills (writing and historical thinking) and themes.

Students are given three choices of "Learning Activities" including textbook reading, printing/annotating an online text, or watching videos available online and completing corresponding video guides. At the beginning of the unit they pick a learning activity and complete the "evidence" pieces. These pieces typically include graphic organizers summarizing the objectives, bullet-pointing evidence for each of the themes we are focusing on for the unit, and evidence for each individual objective broken out. For example, if one of the objectives asks that students be able to analyze political, social, and economic causes of an event, they will complete a graphic organizer that identifies specific evidence for each of those categories.

All or parts of the Learning Guides can be used, and you'll definitely need to update the learning activities portion to reflect your own textbook pages and/or learning activities you like. I use Eric Foner's book "Give Me Liberty". The graphic organizers have been SUPER awesome for my students...I feel like they're experiencing more success in terms of identifying specific evidence to support their arguments.

Students keep a portfolio of all of this evidence for each unit and on assessment day they self-assess (according to Hattie who wrote Visible Learning, self-assessment is a powerful motivator). Students also complete a reflection piece to help them "think about their thinking" and, if necessary, make changes to be more successful on subsequent units. This assessment and reflection pieces is also available in my TpT store.

***New units will be added as I complete them. Check back often! I will also offer a bundle once I have completed all 11 unit learning guides.
