This graphic organizer can be used to help students apply historical thinking skills to any event, person, place, or idea in US history. All or some of the fields can be used depending on the topic. It's a great brainstorming tool to use for review.
Ideas for use:
- Have students try to fill in the graphic organizer on their own first, followed by group collaboration, and finally whole group discussion OR have students circulate to other groups and share ideas, narrowing them down to the top three.
- Extend this activity by having students find primary sources to support the ideas they placed in "comparison" (various perspectives on the same event) and have a discussion surrounding the perspectives (point of view, audience, purpose, etc).
