Starting AR in my classroom was difficult for students to understand at first because they didn't comprehend what the point system was. I decided to create an AR Marathon to help them see their progress and WOW did it help!! MY STUDENTS have books in their hand now almost ALL the time. It also helps some who are having trouble getting motivated to start because they see the class sprinting ahead and they are still at the starting line.
I took a picture of each one of my students in a running position to post on the wall their progress. Every Monday I will move their picture to their new running (AR points) spot. The kids get so excited to come in and see where they are. They also keep track of their points weekly, which I have included a teacher/student tracker sheet. This sheet is also good to keep in their Data Notebook.
Once they complete the AR Marathon they get a “Desk Bumper Stick” and a necklace to where.
