This art activity is a kid-favorite - not only do students learn about cartoons, but they learn how to draw themselves as a cartoon! This lesson is a great way to learn about your students and build community, which lends itself to other important discussions. This is ideal to use as a first day activity, in an art class, or in a general education classroom. Who doesn't love a cartoon?
Students choose an adjective that describes their personality. Based on that adjective, they plan out a cartoon version of themselves on the included worksheet. To aid them, a "Drawing Inspiration" handout is also included, filled with graphics.
Once students have figured out their plan, they get to work. Students sketch out their cartoon-selves and then create an awesome background made out of the adjective they chose.
This lesson includes step-by-step directions and clear visuals and could be taught by anyone. No matter if you are an art teacher or a 3rd grade teacher or a 7th grade history teacher - your kids will eat this up!
