Product Description
Now part of an entire unit! Entire Art Unit: Surrealism in Perspective (7th - 9th)

Once students have been introduced to the concept of drawing in perspective,
they can begin to put their skills into practice with TheColorThief's collection of Perspective Practice lessons.

This step-by-step tutorial walks students through the process of drawing a landscape in one point perspective. This lesson focuses on the use of a horizon line, vanishing point, and the things that occur when we draw depth using one point perspective.

Students follow along with the attached worksheet as they learn to apply their previously-learned skills in order to draw a road, utility poles, city, and bench. The presentation is clear and easy to understand, with colors hi-lighting new marks (red), old marks (black) and marks that will eventually be erased (blue). The lesson concludes with review slides to assess comprehension - these questions can be completed orally or written down as an exit ticket.

When I teach perspective in my classroom, this lesson is where most students have their "lightbulb moment." They love seeing their lines come to life, and spend most of their lunch break bragging to their friends. This lesson could be used on it's own, but was designed to be part of a larger unit. Paired with TheColorThief's other perspective lessons, students will be able to go from novice to expert, understanding why, how, and when to use the vanishing point to draw from both imagination and life. Recommended order of lessons:

1. Introduction to Perspective
1. Perspective Practice - Drawing a Landscape (Easy)
2. Perspective Practice - Drawing a Bedroom (Medium)
2. Perspective Practice - Drawing a City (Difficult)
