After teaching some food vocabulary to the students (cake, pizza, banana, water, orange, apple) as well as Auslan number signs (1-10), you can play this match-up game with your class.
1) Cut out the 16 boxes on the sheet provided. You will notice that there are two exact copies of the same box so that students each end up with a partner match. If your class is bigger than 16 people, you may need to create some extra boxes by cut&pasting the food pictures.
2) Give each student a slip of paper with food on it. They are to walk around the room silently, signing to others what is on their paper (e.g. 5 apples, 3 water). Eventually they will find somebody else signing the exact same foods as them! They are a match!
3) Sit down when you find your partner.
For an extension, you could add in the signs "I have" and the question "You have what?" to make it more conversational. e,g "You have WHAT?" "I have 2 cake 7 water".
