This packet helps students in the lower grades or students in the upper grades that would benefit from visual representations to improve written expression skills based on strategies created by Nanci Bell, Visualizing and Verbalizing. Each page depicts a colorful picture along with space for notes so that the student can brainstorm information that they may wish to incorporate into their descriptive sentence at the bottom of each page.
Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.
With guidance and support from adults and peers, focus on a topic and strengthen writing as needed by revising and editing.
Introduce a topic and group related information together; include illustrations when useful to aiding comprehension.
Recall information from experiences or gather information from print and digital sources; take brief notes on sources and sort evidence into provided categories.
Link opinion and reasons using words and phrases (e.g., for instance, in order to, in addition).
