This 12 page resource has 4 activities for teaching abbreviations.
One resource is a matching game with 18 different abbreviations. Group up your students, give them the abbreviation cards, and have them find the matching full word cards. You can put the full word cards in baggies around the room for them to find and drop their card in, or you can laminate them and add velcro buttons!
There is also a matching page where students match the abbreviations to the full words. This could be a good quiz or assessment for the end of the week of instruction!
There is a sentence sheet for students to rewrite sentences, changing certain words within the sentence into abbreviations.
One page is meant to be a foldable. The best way to use it is to copy it at 80% so that it fits in student reading journals. They glue it in under the long "Abbreviations" tab, and cut the lines in between each of the short, six tabs. Under each tab, in their notebook, you can guide students in writing examples for each abbreviation.
