Students read the "Remember the Ladies" letter Abigail Adams wrote to John Adams and answer 12 questions. There is also a 3 part vocabulary activity for students to complete. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub! This would work well in an Early American History unit or as a Women's History Month activity.
Sample questions include:
--Explain what Abigail means when refers to the “common enemy.” You must say more than England/King George.
--Why would Abigail feel correct, or justified, in saying, “That your Sex are Naturally Tyrannical is a Truth?”
--Discuss why you think Abigail would take the time to write about non "remember the ladies" type things.
--What conclusions can be drawn about John and Abigail’s relationship from her words? You must reference 2 different items in the letter in your answer.
--In what ways would a female peer of Abigail's have disagreed with the sentiments expressed in this letter and why?
*Abigail's original spelling has been preserved in this resource*
