This creative writing assignment is designed to give your students the opportunity to continue Abigail Williams' story after she vanishes in _The Crucible_. Students will have the opportunity to write a short scene based on dramatic conventions such as stage directions and lines. This assignment includes an assignment sheet and rubric, and is a great wrap-up for this story (especially for students who are somewhat unsatisfied with the ending).
When I teach this assignment, I grade them and have another teacher pick the three most interesting (not necessarily the highest grades, but the most compelling) scenes. I then let students cast and direct their own scenes in class, giving 1-2 days for practice. We then allow other students to attend our dramatic reading during a seminar.
