This is a lesson on five abolitionists - Frederick Douglass, John Brown, William Lloyd Garrison, John Quincy Adams, and Harriet Tubman.
Students are shown a powerpoint slide on each of the abolitionists. Each slide has pictures/clues that present how each abolitionist went about bringing an end to slavery. Students make their prediction on the Abolitionist Profile chart. My students really enjoy this playing the role of historian with evidence!
After all of the slides have been viewed, students are given a brief summary of each of the abolitionists (I make a class set of these). They read the profiles and take notes on the Abolitionist Profile chart.
When their notes are completed, students view a second powerpoint that distills the reading. Students take additional notes that they may have missed from the summaries.
