The "About Me" Graphic Organizer Writing Project is a versatile writing activity for students in Grades 3-5. Students use the graphic organizer to record information about themselves and points of interest from their daily lives. Topics on the graphic organizer include family, interests, favorites, school goal, life goal, and pets. Students use the information that they have recorded as a series of writing prompts for each topic they choose to write about. Lined writing pages with topic headings are provided in the download.
A reminders page is included. Students are reminded to use an introductory sentence, interesting details, and a conclusion in their paragraph(s). Students are also reminded to indent and to check their sentences for beginning and ending punctuation.
I have used this material during the first two weeks of school with my 4th graders for many years. Students enjoy decorating the graphic organizer by outlining the circles (and rectangle) and by adding their own decorative flair to the page. Underneath the graphic organizer, I attach their written paragraphs for display.
This writing project makes a wonderful display in the classroom (or hallway) for Back-to-School Night and Open House - or for viewing any time! If you'd like additional tips about how I have used this material, it is included in the download.
I hope you and your students enjoy this writing project as much as my students and I have!
