This is a 105 page lesson unit that combines science and oral/written language for elementary self-contained special education classrooms with students at a variety of academic levels. The science topics include the senses, body parts, needs versus wants, human life cycle, traits passed down to offspring by parents, and the circulatory system, plus healthy habits, hygiene, and social skills related to these topics. It contains daily writing practice, sample IEP goals, vocabulary lists, pre-post tests with data sheets and answer key, lesson ideas including daily review suggestions, recommended children's books and websites for each day's lesson (where you can access free worksheets, lesson presentation materials, and science experiment ideas), photo picture cards for nonverbal students to use as a means of communication or the class to use in category sorts, and game cards for review. Every lesson, test, and review game is written for 3 ability levels of students, 1) severe cognitive or intellectual impairment and/or nonverbal, 2) moderate cognitive impairment or severe language impairment, and 3) mild cognitive impairment or academically capable, but behaviorally or sensory challenged that prevents full inclusion in the regular class. These lessons prepare students to more meaningfully participate in inclusive regular education science classes.
