Why I use the DK books: These biographies are by far the most enjoyable, told in an honest and interesting way, while remaining comprehensive. They are perfect for Language Arts students who need to add non-fiction or biography to their reading list. For social studies, they can be used as additional reading. For example, if you are a social studies teacher working on an American Civil War unit, this book is an ideal supplement to your lesson plan. The best thing about these biographies is that they work well for almost any age, depending on how the book is used.
I have been using DK books for over ten years. Students like them for the layout and the photographs, as well as the short but detailed chapters.
Whether for ELA or SS, or for bridge work in the summertime, the reading can go fast or slow, depending on students’ ages and needs. The lesson-plan calendar is up to you!
Be sure to be on the lookout for more of my DK biography lesson plans. I will be uploading them periodically.
