Have you ever wanted your students to read the uniting and comforting words of President Abraham Lincoln's 2nd Inaugural address? Given just over a month before his assassination, the address rams home his vision of a peace and reunification of a country torn apart by civil war. In this activity, students will read the contents of the speech, then analyze it with the aid of a graphic organizer for each paragraph. They will describe the message, summarize it, and then define key words.
