This packet contains visuals and activities that relate to the story Abraham Lincoln and skills that are taught in Reading Street 2nd grade, Unit 2 Week 2.
The activities can be used for literacy stations, centers or other small group activities. There is also a sample choice board if you prefer.
Directions For Using the Contents
Each page has the two daily fix-it sentences on it. Students will read the sentence, rewrite the sentence fixing the errors. The daily fix-its are great to use for morning work or morning blast.
Vocabulary and High-Frequency Words
Vocabulary dominoes using the high-frequency words are included. An organizer can be used with the high frequency words or the selection vocabulary words.
This pack contains contraction task cards with a recording sheet and answer key.
There is also a Phonics BINGO/Color Me Activity with 5 different cards for up to 5 players.
Place the base word cards face down. Students will draw a card and read the word to their partner. After reading the word, they will color the word on the card on their paper. The goal is to get five in a row.
Partners can use the same paper but different color crayons.
Copy the cards onto card stock and laminate to play BINGO. There is a recording sheet for BINGO.
There is an ABC order activity sheet for spelling words in addition to the “I Have Who Has” cards. A recording sheet is included for the “I have who has.”
There are 18 task cards that work with proper nouns Each card has a sentence on it. Students will find the proper noun in each sentence and write it correctly on the recording sheet. These cards work best when copied onto white card stock and laminated. An answer key is included. There is also a poster for nouns.
There are uppercase and lowercase m and n handwriting practice sheets for D’Nealian, Zaner-Bloser, and cursive handwriting styles.
Included in this pack are author’s purpose and story structure posters. There are 12 author’s purpose task cards. Students will determine if the given passage was written to inform or entertain.
Also included is an author’s purpose writing piece that comes from the “Think Critically” section. This writing piece makes a great formative assessment. I usually use it on day 2. The writing paper can be copied onto the back to allow more room for writing if needed.
The “Look Back and Write” also comes from the “Think Critically” section. I use this writing piece as a formative assessment on day 3. Again, you can copy the blank writing page onto the back to allow more room for writing if needed.
There is a sign for biography that contains a writing prompt. There is also a “Lincoln” web organizer. A biography writing activity is included, as well as, a “Look Back and Write” prompt from the series. These make good daily formative assessments. Again, the second page of the writing paper can be copied onto the back to provide more room for writing.
Included in this packet are word wall cards for the weekly amazing words, selection vocabulary words, high frequency words, and spelling words. There are also cards for all of the Common Core Standards covered during the week.
You may want to copy these onto card stock using different colors for each. If you use the same color consistently each week, students will quickly understand what is on the card (Ex. amazing words-blue, vocabulary-yellow, spelling-red, etc.) Laminate the cards for durability.
There are picture cards for vocabulary words with definitions on them. You will want to copy these onto white card stock.
